CTO Magazine, Iridium Launch Starbook 900
1st September '03
Iridium’s
latest launch, the Starbook 900 notebook, is based around
the new mobile 3.06GHz Pentium 4 processor. It also has
a 17inch screen with a WXGA resolution of 1,440 x 900, which
gives loads of screen area for watching movies. It’s
quite hefty, with a weight of 3.6Kg, and it’s hardly
thin and light at 36.5mm thick, but the specification of
this desktop replacement notebook justifies those dimensions.
Powering that huge screen is an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000
with 64MB dedicated graphics memory.
The
Starbook 900 incorporates 5.1 DTS sound output together
with a 5-speaker system, including a removable subwoofer
that can be substituted for an optional TV Tuner or 6-in-1
card reader and a built in camera. The rest of the specification
varies according to preference, so up to 1GB memory, up
to 80GB hard drive, optional 802.11b, the combo drive can
be replaced with a DVD – R/RW recorder.
The
Starbook 900 will begin shipping in September 2003. Machines
will
be supplied as standard with Microsoft XP Home Operating
System, Ability Office 2002 Software and Panda Anti Virus
Software.
