Iridium Starbook 900

CTS (October '03)

FOR BUSINESS AND PLEASURE

Iridium has a reputation for being one of the best vendors of high quality laptops. The Starbook 900 certainly does not let this reputation down. Similar to the last Starbook we reviewed – the S750, the 900 has been designed specifically for multimedia and entertainment purposes. The features and devices included within the laptop are going to appeal to users looking for those functions.

The notebook includes a DVD and 5.1 dts sound, which is going to offer the best graphics card and 17in screen. So you can watch the latest films in superb quality, making the Starbook 900 one of the most up-to-date and best laptops with reference to new technology. Because of these features, this not only makes the notebook a superb mobile digital entertainment centre, but also a powerful portable presentation tool.

However, not only is the Starbook 900 ideal for mobile entertainment, but it is also a strong ally to have in and out of the workplace. With the infamous Intel Pentium Processor 4, 1GB RAM and 80GB ultra DMA hard drive at its disposal, the Starbook 900 asserts itself as one of the most powerful mobile computers on the market.

Like the S750, the 900 also has Microsoft Windows XP, which makes Iridium’s intention clear to see – this is aimed at the serious user who can take advantage of all of the features and devices the 900 can provide.

The Starbook 900 has kept to the traditional design associated with Iridium. This includes the stylish silver casing, full-size keyboard and touch –sensitive mouse based just in front. Like the S750, the ports are primarily based at the front, though the bulk of the buttons are based just in front of the screen. This design does not make the front look crowded and the buttons are made more accessible for the user to get access to. The DVD player and floppy disk outlet are neatly tucked in at the side, therefore making the design simple and easy to follow, and in turn making the Starbook 900 more effective and appealing for all.
With extraordinary features and devices, a stylish and simple design. What more could you possibly want from mobile computing? It really does have it all and I would strongly recommend investing in one to be part of your working life, or simply to watch the latest films on.

For business or pleasure, the Starbook 900 has everything you will ever need from mobile computing and gets a mighty ‘thumbs up’ from CTS.
